Why We Fast

As we step into 2026, we are calling our church family to a 21 day fast, starting on Monday 12 January through Sunday 01 February.

This is a key moment for us as a church as we enter a new year and celebrate a decade of Gas Street Church. It’s a landmark moment to rededicate ourselves to God and believe for a move of God in our church, city and region. We are praying that we would be awakened to the love of God and be reminded of His faithfulness.

Below is a list of resources to help you prepare for this time of fasting and prayer. Take time to plan and pray into the specific kind of fast God would have you do, and gathering with us as we seek God together as a church family

Types of Fast

The fast you choose should present a level of challenge, but it’s important to know your body, your options, and most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

ONE MEAL A DAY
Fast one meal each day during the 21 days (for example, lunch), using that time to pray and worship.

ONE DAY A WEEK
Set aside one day each week to fast for 24 hours. (For example, from Sunday evening meal to Monday evening meal).

A PERIOD OF FASTING
You may feel led to fast for an extended period, such as a 3-day fast. If you have never fasted before, consider starting with a single 24-hour fast during the 21 days.

ABSTINENCE
Abstinence is different from fasting. While fasting involves food, abstinence involves giving up something that has a daily pull on your life (such as sugar, alcohol, or social media) and dedicating that time and attention to God.
