And Be Thankful

Colossians 3:15-17 (NIV)
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that we're called to a life of unity and peace. He urges us to let this 'peace of Christ rule in our hearts'. How can we achieve this? If you've been tracking this for the last few days, it'll be no surprise that one major key is cultivating an attitude of gratitude. Paul says, 'And be thankful'. Let's reflect on how taking time to express thankfulness, not just to God but to one another, can strengthen relationships and allow us to walk in greater unity and peace.

If you've ever bought someone a coffee, cooked a meal or dropped off a gift, it's always encouraging to hear 'thank you'. A simple 'thank you' goes a long way. It shows their appreciation, but it also encourages you.

Has a friend been a listening ear during a difficult time? Thank them for their time and compassion. Did someone give you great advice or share their wisdom? Let them know how much you appreciate their investment in your life. Did you connect with God during a talk or a time of worship? Thank the speaker or musician for their gift and the time they spent preparing.

Thankfulness can also bring peace to fractured relationships. I'm guilty of thinking the worst of people rather than the best, but over the years, I've discovered thankfulness is the key to a better perspective. I've found it helpful to make a mental list of why I'm grateful for that person in my life. It's incredible how disagreements can seem so insignificant compared to treasuring that connection.

Whether we're completing a work task, helping a neighbour, or having a tough conversation, let's do it all in the name of Jesus, embracing the call to be thankful and aware of his presence in every aspect of our lives.

Prayer — Lord, help me to extend the love you have for me to those around me. Bring peace and unity to all my relationships.
