Bible Parents —The Unfair One
Genesis 37:3,4 (MSG)
Israel (Jacob) loved Joseph more than any of his other sons because he was the child of his old age. And he made him an elaborately embroidered coat. When his brothers realised their father loved him more than them, they grew to hate him - they wouldn't even speak to him.
My grandson used to wind up his sister by asking me which of them I loved more, adding, 'Me, of course!'
My standard reply was: you're both unique, so I love each of you uniquely!
Jacob unfortunately didn't convey this to his twelve offspring; everything he said and did made it clear that Joseph was his preferred son. This led to disastrous consequences which would take many years to resolve.
Thank goodness God is perfectly 'fair' towards his children - he made us unique and loves us uniquely. History and scientific evidence proclaim you are unique - just like everyone else!
Just think, God could have chosen to make identical groups of 'you' and distributed 'you' throughout the world or throughout history. But he didn't - he made one of you. He planned and designed you before you came into being:
Jeremiah (1:5) God says, ' Before I shaped you in the womb I knew all about you, before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you.'
The psalmist writes:
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something, like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth, all the stages of my life were spread out before you, the days of my life all prepared before I'd even lived one day.'
(Psalm 139:15-16 MSG)
God loves you - and has a unique relationship with you. Had you been the only one to wander away from your creator, Jesus would still have come to die for you,
God has chosen to make you an essential part of his holy plans for his kingdom here on earth - without you, his plan is not complete. His plan for you is for your eternal joy and his glory.
Prayer - Thank you that you chose to make me your unique child.
