Let Go
Psalm 46:10-11 (NIV)
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us, the God of Jacob is our fortress.
The New English Translation says, ‘Stop your striving and recognise that I am God!’.
As we come to the end of the week, can we stop and ensure that the Lord is in his rightful place over our lives? For some this week has been full of decision-making, managing people or families, or thinking through the practicalities of next steps. We may have had to carry a lot this week, but this scripture is a reminder that we are carried. It is a call to surrender; it is an invitation to let go of control!
One of my favourite and most humbling passages is found in Job 38: 'Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions?... Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb?... Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edge and shake the wicked out of it?'
This scripture reminds us that we are a small piece of a huge operation. How foolish to trust in our own wisdom and not the wisdom of the One who sees it all.
For some, the passage is an encouragement and comfort; for others, it is convicting and challenging. The Lord calls us to a place of stopping and acknowledging his sovereignty. He will be exalted among the nations, he will be exalted among the earth, and when we partner with his will, he is exalted through our lives too. So let go and let God!
Prayer: Lord I surrender the past week and entrust it into your hands.
