God Remembers Us

Genesis 8:1 (NIV)

“But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided.”

One of my favourite memories of Lockdown was the myriad rainbows displayed in people’s windows. During our hour of exercise, our family would walk around the neighbouring streets where the pieces of homemade art blue-tacked into front windows bought joy to an otherwise dark and fearful time.

During the height of the pandemic, the rainbow was used as a symbol of support of our NHS. It was a symbol of hope and solidarity when we had to be absent from each other.

In the Bible, the rainbow is also a sign of hope. It is a sign of God’s faithfulness to his people. Today, each rainbow we see in the sky reminds us of God’s promise. But more than that, it shows us how God remembers the promise he has made to humanity, never to destroy the world again.

God hasn’t forgotten us; he remembers the promises he has made in Scripture.

Prayer — Thank you that before I was born you knew me. Thank you that you remember me. Help me trust that you faithfully remember and keep your promises.
