Gotta Love A Bit Of Mariah

Matthew 9:20-22 –

‘Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.’

I’m not sure if anyone remembers that Mariah Carey song from The Prince of Egypt that included the lyrics ‘There can be miracles when you believe.’ I haven’t even watched the film but I absolutely loved that song and I love that line which simplifies what can be quite complex to understand: when we believe, there can be miracles. How cool is that! As we see in Matthew 9:20, the woman who touched Jesus’ robe believed, she was filled with faith and Jesus healed her.

In a time where we are not gathering with others, mostly stuck at home and not really seeing anyone, I find it hard to have faith for miracles and to believe that God can move. I was reminded of that story that was shared at church of a lady whose leg was healed after one of the Instagram live prayer sessions (Tuesday 7.30am; Thursday 9pm) and was challenged to be more expectant for miracles and to see God move. We’ve seen that even during this time of lockdown God continues to move even through the likes of Instagram!

A family member has had something that they need healing for which has been going on for about 6 months now. I struggled to believe that anything would change if I prayed, but hearing the story of the lady’s leg I felt filled with faith again to pray and believe that miracles do happen. What miracles are you believing for today, however big or small; Philippians 4:6 ‘bring your prayers and petitions, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God’.

Prayer – Ask God to increase your faith and pray for any specific situations where you want to see him move.
