God's Holiness Lessons From The 'In Between'

Isaiah 26: 3 (NIVUK)
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.
During this week’s devotions, we are going to look at four stories from the Bible and the lessons we can learn from the ‘in-between’.
I am not the best at waiting or sitting in the ‘in-between’. I am that person who likes to know what is going to happen next in a film; I am guilty of finding out online who leaves Strictly the day before the results show, and I am not a fan of when it gets hard (is anyone?!). In waiting rooms, I get impatient and often find myself politely checking with the receptionist how much longer it will be before I am seen. I like to know the plan, the purpose, why something is happening, where I am going and how to get there.
Yet I wonder how often we are all guilty of rushing the ‘in-between’ to get to the next appointment, the next stage, the next goal or the next job. Are we missing out on what God is teaching us in those 'in-between' moments, the difficult moments, the long moments because we get frustrated at the circumstances and demand answers, question God and look to fix a situation ourselves?
Sometimes the 'in-between' looks like silence and wondering where God is; sometimes, it’s stormy and feels like there is no sense of direction, and sometimes, it’s suffering with no clear reason. Whatever it looks like, it is my prayer that this week we are reminded of how God can move in the 'in-between', and we look to the Bible together to discover what lessons we can learn.
Prayer - Father God, we pray that this week we learn lessons from the 'in-between' and from those who have stood in those moments. Help us apply the lessons to where we are now and what we will face.
