Let’s Party It’s Friday!

Psalm 18: 46-50 (NIV)

‘The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Saviour! He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me.

Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name. He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing love to his anointed, to David and to his descendants forever.’

I love a good social gathering. Although I wouldn’t describe myself as an absolute party animal like some of my uni friends, I am a fan of a dinner party, a house party and can even be persuaded to get up and dance if the feeling takes me.

Obviously right now social gatherings have been cancelled but I count myself incredibly lucky to be living with three wonderful housemates that keep me thoroughly entertained. Recently, in a desperate attempt to free ourselves from long boring evenings we’ve taken to cranking up some music in our living room (no neighbours have complained yet), turning off the lights and dancing wildly around the living room.

I like to think that when David wrote the final verses of Psalm 18 he was doing the very same, dancing and singing without a care in the world around his royal palace. These verses are all about rejoicing in response to who God is, what he has done and how he will continue to give his descendants (that’s us!) great victories forever and ever.

So, as it’s Friday and because we’ve spent the last four days being reminded of God’s steadfast, active and amazing love for us through Psalm 18 I want to encourage you to take some time today to rejoice, to let loose in praise and to thank God for who he is, what he has done in your life and the great victories he will win for you in the future.

Shout out these verses at the top of your lungs if you want to! Dance around your kitchen in your pyjamas if that’s your thing! Wherever, however, whenever you do it just praise him with all you have today.

Prayer – Father God, You are my rock, you are my saviour, you are ALIVE! Thank you for all you’ve done for me this week and beyond. I will never stop praising you for your goodness to me. I offer up my rejoicing as a sign of my love to you. Blessed be your name forever and ever!
