Pour Out Your Heart

Psalm 62:8 (NLT)

O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.

Trust can be a complicated idea or commodity depending on what you’ve experienced or who has been in your life. No matter the disappointments or struggles I have faced, I can say that I have known God to be trust-worthy. In this verse, and I encourage you to read the whole Psalm, David is encouraging us to trust God at all times, for God alone is our refuge. No matter what you are facing right now, God is a safe place, a solid foundation, and a good father.

When you trust someone, you can be honest with them and feel free to not hold back. Recently I have been learning more and more to not withhold or suppress my thoughts and feelings from God; rather pour out my heart to him, letting go in his presence and embracing him as my refuge and strength. I love this from A. W Tozer who says, ‘We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts’. How comforting it is to know that God is close and ready to listen.

There is such freedom and a release for our hearts and souls when we pour everything out to him. David went through so much in his life and knowing some of his testimony from the Bible fills me with confidence to take the same posture and approach of being honest with God, pouring out my heart to him.

Reflection What do you want to say to God today? Talk to him, pour out your heart to him. Let go in his presence and don’t hold back.
