2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV) —
‘if my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.’
Is anyone desperate to see God move in our nation? Is anyone ready for heaven to come down, for revival to break out in our nation and for lives to forever be changed by the gospel? Yes! So, what must we do?
This scripture makes it clear that we must first humble ourselves. Philippians 2 has something to say about this in verse 7-8 where the writer explains that Jesus ‘emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.’ We must daily take the posture of a servant as our Saviour did.
Then we must pray and seek his face. How much we have neglected this in our current day and age! Where are those who seek his face? After humbling ourselves, we become aware of our desperate need for him, leading us to pray and seek his face. Jesus set us the example for this - he who would climb mountains and find solitary places to pray and to meet with his Father. If Jesus did it…
Then, after praying, being in his presence, seeking his face, we are required to turn from our 'wicked ways'. I would suggest this is much, much easier having humbled ourselves, realised our need to seek him and pray and having met with his powerful presence. I think after those, turning away from sin becomes our natural response!
After these, then he will hear from heaven, then we will see the Lord revive our land. Don’t stop praying!
Prayer – Lord, help me seek your face.
