Run To The Rock!

Psalms 61:2 (AMP) —

‘From the end of the earth I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I (a rock that is too high to reach without Your help).’

In today's busy world with demands in and outside of the home, an avalanche of material pressures, consumption of social media and constant seeking after achievements, life can sometimes be overwhelming.

One Old Testament character, a prophet named Elijah, had just achieved an immense feat - 'Now Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets of Baal with the sword.' (1 Kings 19:1)

However it didn't take long for Elijah to despair of his life -  'Elijah was afraid and arose and ran for his life, and he came to Beersheba which belongs to Judah, and he left his servant there. But he himself travelled a day’s journey into the wilderness, and he came and sat down under a juniper tree and asked God that he might die. He said, 'It is enough; now, O Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.' (1 Kings 19:3-4)

When overwhelmed we can feel weak, tired, confused, vulnerable and more susceptible to the lies of the enemy rather than trusting the truth and promises of God. As I encourage myself, I encourage you, to run to the Rock, which is Jesus. Why?

Because

Jesus is a safe space -

'The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous runs to it and is safe and set on high.' (Proverbs 18:10)

Jesus lightens the load -

'Casting all your cares (all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all) on Him, for He cares about you (with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully).' (Peter 5:7 AMP)

Jesus gives us the victory -

'But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.' (1 Corinthians 15:57)

Prayer - Holy Spirit, would you help me in the highs and lows of life, in those sudden moments where overwhelming feelings prey on me. Help me to stand on the truth and promises of God in those moments and not succumb to the lies of the enemy. Thank you that the victory has already been won and help me to walk in that confidence.
