The Armour Of God
Ephesians 6:10-14 (NIVUK)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Four our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Paul is coming to the end of his letter to the Ephesians and he is emphasising that Christians are 'to stand'. To do this, the early disciples and we too, need to remember all he has taught us about grace and apply it to our lives. In doing so, we will be a people dressed for battle and equipped for war. We can rest in the strength of God’s formidable power and trust that he will deliver his children from the enemy’s snare. We are commanded to put on the full armour of God so that we can fight against Satan’s evil plans.
We do not fight against earthly powers; it is the dark, spiritual forces in the spiritual realm that threaten to deceive and pull us away from God. In our battle against evil, Paul instructs us to stand firm so that we can tackle the darkness that attempts to overpower us.
Are you ready to step into the spiritual fight that creeps up without warning? Will you be a warrior for Christ and put on the full armour of God when evil tries to triumph over you? Christ does not promise us a pain-free world but equips us with every spiritual gift to stand firm against the enemy’s schemes.
Prayer is the door that grants us full access to the Father, whereby our prayers are always lovingly heard by the One who came to offer us freedom and salvation in Christ. The battle belongs to the Lord, and he is reminding you who your true enemy is: not flesh and blood, but the dark forces of evil that exist in the heavenly realms. So, wear your full armour of God and defeat the evil that threatens to break through by remaining firm and steadfast in Christ.
Prayer - Lord, help me to stand firm against the enemy’s evil schemes and put on the full armour of God.
