The Same God
Psalm 46:6-7 (NIV)
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
I completed the Bar Practice Course not long ago and one of the downsides, aside from the volume of reading, was the cost. One day my friend, also on the course, went to a prayer conference and responded to an altar call. Whilst at the front, someone prayed with her and shortly after, another person approached her, took out their banking app and asked her to provide her bank details. They then transferred the exact amount for the term expenses into her account!!! After she told me, I went to the front for every single altar call just in case (nobody ever asked me for my bank details though!). If I’m honest, I was disappointed that God didn’t provide the costs for me - I also needed the help!
Does that mean God is any less close to me than my friend? No! I learnt that the very fact he moved in my friend’s life should give me the faith and expectancy for my own. He’s the same God after all.
I wonder if someone reading this has been feeling you have a second-class version of God compared with those around you. Maybe you’ve been hearing the most incredible stories of God moving through the lives of others and are wondering where he is in your own. Or, when you look at the scriptures and see the sea parting, manna sending, resurrecting God, you think that it is a version of God that could only be experienced long ago. Be encouraged - the God of Jacob IS your fortress! May you catch the revelation that he can absolutely do the same thing for you. He’s the same God!
Today if you witness the Lord moving elsewhere, let it encourage and not discourage you.
Prayer: Lord help me to celebrate all I see you doing around me, and may this evidence give me the endurance to be hopeful for the things I’m yet to see.
