You Are Not Hidden
1 Corinthians 12:19-24 —
‘As a matter of fact, in practice it works the other way—the 'lower' the part, the more basic, and therefore necessary. You can live without an eye, for instance, but not without a stomach. When it’s a part of your own body you are concerned with, it makes no difference whether the part is visible or clothed, higher or lower. You give it dignity and honor just as it is, without comparisons’
Often, the more hidden roles are the most vital. Our favourite on-screen actor would be nothing without talented directors and scriptwriters who craft captivating plot lines; our favourite music artists wouldn’t sound half as great without technical sound engineers who can blend sounds, harmonies and beats together into a 3-and-a half minute chart-topping hit. And the best TV presenters need a team of camera operators, lighting directors and makeup artists to make everything run smoothly.
Do you ever feel like the work that you do, the role that you take in your family or friendships, the things you give your time to, go unnoticed? That you’re spending your days hidden in the wings rather than taking center stage.
I’ve been pondering this verse from Romans 12 in relation to these words that Paul writes to the Corinthians.
‘Do not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.’ (V.2)
Living for human praise can quickly become exhausting which is why God doesn’t want us to fall into the trap of seeking the approval of man (or woman). The values of this world say that if you do something and it isn’t seen by others or publicly recognised then it’s of no worth.
That’s why God is constantly calling us to look to him, and him alone for our approval and validation. He wants us to confidently hold onto his word that says we are not hidden from him and live confidently in the fact that our work for Jesus never goes unseen.
Not one of us goes unnoticed by God. Everything we do, every moment and every thought is accounted for by him. There are no small roles; we all have our part to play.
Prayer – Thank you God that you know everything about us and have seen every moment of our lives. Please help us to remember that our lives are for you and you alone.
