FAQs GS Kids

We’ve put together some frequently asked questions to help you know what’s happening in GS Kids and how things work!

What groups do you run?
At all locations we have a group for 1-3-year-olds, and then groups for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. We’ll spend time in our small groups, and then some activities we’ll join with another age group.

What are the timings for Gas Street Kids?
At GS Central (9.30AM), GS St Luke's, GS South and GS Longbridge kids start off with their families for worship altogether before heading into groups for craft, games, Bible teaching, prayer and worship. At GS Central (11.30AM) we have kids for the full 90 minutes. Check-in opens 15 mins before the gathering at each site so you can register your kids.

What will my kids do?
Lots of things! Each week we’ll look at a different story or theme in the Bible, and unpack it together, through games, stories and craft. We’ll also have times of prayer and worship, and lots of play too!

How do I find out what my kids are getting up to?
We let families know about the content we’re looking at in GS Kids via email. To receive these emails you simply need to sign up for ChurchSuite and make sure your kids are registered on there too. We’re also on Instagram @gasstreetkids

Do I need to book or tell you we’re coming?
Nope - just come along! Spaces are first come first served on a Sunday morning. Occasionally, if we’re really busy or low on Kids Team, then we may have to cap the groups on Sunday but we do everything we can to avoid this happening!

Why are there capacities on group sizes?
We have capacities on our group sizes and ratios, in line with the Church of England’s guidance that we have to work within to help keep everyone safe. It means everyone can have the best, and safest, time!

Preschool (1 year olds) - 1:3 ratio
Preschool (2 and 3 year olds) - 1:4 ratio
Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3 - 1:6 ratio
Year 4, 5 and 6 - 1:8 ratio

My child isn’t feeling very well, can they still come along?
If your child is unwell, we would ask you to stay at home for that week, to help us keep everyone safe and healthy. Children with diarrhoea and / or vomiting should not come along until at least 48 hours after their symptoms have gone. We also need you to stay home if you, your child, or anyone in your house, feels unwell, or shows any symptoms of or similar to covid-19.

Where will my kids be?
At GS Central and GS Longbridge we have a variety of rooms and spaces for GS Kids groups. At GS St Luke’s we have the school next door which means big halls, small group space, a playground and a football cage! At GS South we use the classrooms at the school.

Where do I need to go on arrival?
Kids Check In is located in the cafe spaces at all sites. Check in opens 15 minutes before the gathering at each location. The Check in team will sign your kids in and give them their stickers, as well as show you where to go.

I’ve got a child under 1, what can I do?
Your kids are more than welcome to stay and be a part of the gathering, but if your child is unsettled or you want some space for them at all sites we have spaces you can go. At GS Central this is in the Cafe and at GS St Luke’s, South and Longbridge this is at the back of the gathering.

Who looks after my kids?
Our fantastic Gas Street Kids Team! All of our team have been through our safer recruitment process, safeguarding training and have enhanced DBS checks so you’re in safe hands.

What should they bring with them?
As little as possible please! We’ll provide drinks and biscuits, and we have loads of toys & activities. Please don’t send your kids in with their own toys – we don’t want them to get lost! At GS St Luke’s please bring a coat so we can go outside!

What happens if my kids won’t settle in a group?
Parents/carers are able to enter the groups to settle children but we do not let parents and carers stay, in line with our safeguarding policy. We will come and get you if your child is upset or needs you!

What about nappies and toileting?
If your child needs a nappy changing during the gathering we will come and get you to do that. If your child is currently potty training please let us know on arrival and we’ll try to ensure there are no accidents. We have a number of toilets available to the kids and they will be assisted as appropriate.

My child has additional needs - are the groups suitable?
We want to provide an environment where every child can encounter Jesus and explore faith, whatever their needs. Please get in touch with us if you need more information. We would love to meet you and your kids, and make sure they get the best support.

Can I join the team?
Absolutely! We are always looking for people to come alongside the kids! To register your interest and for more info click here.
