Adoration

Jeremiah 10:6-10 (ESV) —

‘There is none like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is great in might. Who would not fear you, O King of the nations? For this is your due; for among all the wise ones of the nations and in all their kingdoms there is none like you. They are both stupid and foolish; the instruction of idols is but wood! Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. They are the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith; their clothing is violet and purple; they are all the work of skilled men. But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. At his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation.’

Isn’t the Lord worthy? There is no one like him. I sometimes forget the truths written in this passage. Sometimes I get distracted by other things, but the Lord always reminds me through his grace, that there is none like him. Out of all of those who are wise in the whole earth, there is no one like our God and King. Sometimes we find ourselves looking to other things rather than to God, creating idols which are purely man made and of the world, yet they are ‘stupid and foolish’; they are nothing in comparison to the beauty, the fullness, and the life that there is in Jesus.

Just for a moment, consider what is meant by ‘the Lord is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King’? It means the God we serve is the only God, the exalted one, the one who is alive and active, the one who’s name is above every other name… (we could go on for a while)

I can skip past scriptures like these in the Bible because I have ‘heard it before’, but I find it helpful just to sit with passages like this, to say them out loud and to use them as a starting place for my praise to flow out of. Today, I encourage you to sit with this passage, to consider what these words mean, the magnitude and greatness of our God and to use this as a starting place to lift praise and adoration to the Father.

Prayer – Lord, there is none like you, we praise you our everlasting king.
