Could You Be More Specific?

Matthew 20:30-34 (NIV)

Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, 'Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!'... Jesus stopped and called them. 'What do you want me to do for you?' he asked.
'Lord,' they answered, 'we want our sight.'

Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight...

Can I ask a question: How specific are your prayers?

Just the other morning I came downstairs for a coffee and our machine was bust. After spending 15 minutes trying to 'fix it' turning it off and on several times - finally I let out a frustrated cry...'God, please just fix this flipping machine. Amen.' As soon as I said 'amen', the machine started working. I stepped back, visibly shocked, as my coffee began to pour.

I couldn’t have been much more specific with the prayer request, and I couldn’t have seen a more specific answer.

Don’t mishear me, it’s great to pray big, bold prayers; prayers for our nation, the persecuted church, our future, but it doesn’t mean we can’t entrust the mundane problems of our day to him and, in both our big and small prayers, be specific in our asking.

Look at the story of two men in Matthew 20:30-34. See what happens here? Two blind men pray for Jesus to 'have mercy' on them and, in response, Jesus asks them to be more specific. They ask to be healed of their visual impairment, a bold, faith-filled and specific request. Jesus heals them! Specific prayers see specific answers.

Prayer Go on! Dare to be specific.
