Courageous

Psalm 27:13-14 (NRSV)—

‘I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage, wait for the Lord.’

At the new 'plant' of Christ Church Summerfield, the three values kindness, commitment and courage will shape our posture to each other and the surrounding community These are the values that I saw in the existing congregation, in how they have conducted themselves during a time of significant change and vulnerability.

It takes courage to hear God’s call and follow. This is true of both the existing congregation and the planting team from Gas Street. We are committed to demonstrating this courage as an intrinsic part of our community life. When we hear God call, we want to follow courageously.

I’m struck by the fact that courage is not the absence of fear but stepping out in faith, in spite of those fears. I have all sort of fears about the next season at Christ Church Summerfield. My own abilities and weaknesses are front and centre of those fears. You, too, might have fears and concerns about what this next season might look like. But God calls us to be courageous, to step out, despite our fears.

Psalm 27:13-14: I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage, wait for the Lord.

You may feel as though you’ve been waiting for the Lord for a long time. But we don’t do our waiting alone. We wait for the Lord together. We en-courage each other, enabling each other to take on courage. Take time today to 'wait for the Lord' in prayer, absorbing his courage. Text a friend who you know is waiting for God’s breakthrough in their life, share your courage with them.

Prayer — Lord, share with me your courageous heart and help me to encourage others.
