Finding Identity In Our Salvation

Ephesians 6v17 (NIV) —

‘Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.’

I've been pondering recently what it means to be 'different' from those around me who don't share faith in Jesus. How can I love them deeply without compromising my faith and witness? What does it mean for people to look at my life and know that I am different? Romans 12v2 tells us, ‘Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think’. In a world that is calling us to compromise, how can I be a light for Christ, a testimony to his mercy.

When Paul was teaching the Ephesians about the armour of God, helmets would have been used to show someone’s identity and allegiance. People could recognise who someone belonged to by the helmet they wore.

It delights my spirit to know this is true for us! How amazing that we wear our salvation on our head; our salvation gives us heavenly identity. When I think about how to live differently this verse encourages me: I can do this by placing my identity in his salvation.

Let's encourage one another to wear our salvation identity for the world to see! Whilst walking in the 'shoes of peace' let’s invite others into the Kingdom of God, ready to give a reason (Jesus) for the hope we have, knowing the joy and fulfilment that awaits them! May our lives bear witness to the truth that living with Christ is not a life of striving, but rather a life daily open to salvation grace.

My prayer is that today you feel stronger, more equipped for spiritual battle and ultimately closer to our Father in Heaven; that you will daily put on Truth, Peace, Faith and Salvation - the equipment of the Armour of God!

Prayer- Lord, thank you for the gift of salvation. Thank you that in a world calling us to compromise, we can live differently, shining your light to those around us.
