Lacking Nothing

Psalm 23:1 (NIVUK)

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing

I lack nothing. Let the weight of that truth sink and dwarf any other narrative you have in your head or heart. ‘The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing’

What freedom to read this! What confidence we can have! To trust the Shepherd, the one who can see it all, has perfect perspective and foresight. By simply walking with him, doing our best to follow his voice, we lack nothing.

I have a personality (enneagram type 6) that is susceptible to doubt and, mainly with me, self-doubt. It presents itself at different times wearing different hats and fools me time and again. As I get older, I'm getting a bit wiser but it almost always boils down to an attack on my identity. It often happens where I am relying on an old experience of God’s love, rather than today’s. Yesterday’s bread is not for today.

There is nothing like the power in this verse that towers over any schemes of the enemy to try to make me agree with that attacking doubt or undermine who I am and whose I am.

You may be feeling a deep sense of loss today. I stand with you in that and pray Jesus would truly reveal what it means to be your everything.

Or perhaps you have a sense of being lost, not sure which way to go next. The Lord is your shepherd, you only need to trust.

Prayer How sweet it is to trust in Jesus. Father, help me trust you today. Thank you for the confidence I have in you and please build more where my trust is weak.
