One In Christ

John 17:24 (NLT)
I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.

The other day, I was scrolling on TikTok, and I came across a video of a group of church members in China Town dancing to a song called ‘I know who I am’ by Sinach.*  As they began to dance, people of different nationalities, cultures and backgrounds began to join and dance together in worship. It showed such a beautiful depiction of unity in Christ.

When we centre ourselves in Jesus, he draws us closer together. As we know and worship him more, the eyes of our heart open and we begin to see ourselves and those around us more clearly for who we are. Isn’t this what we long to see in our churches, cities, homes and societies: people united in mind, in spirit and purpose?

Unfortunately, recently, we have seen the rise of division in our nation which has struck much fear, pain and confusion into many communities. When we see injustice, it can be hard to know what to do. We must turn to Christ in earnest prayer. Jesus did what no one could do, he brought unity, he restored people to himself. Right to the present day, God is bringing unity in many ways and in many places.

Let's, in these challenging times, go to God: the Perfect Unity. To pray for his wisdom and guidance to be poured out on us, on leaders and nations. As the Church, we need to be living examples of what unity looks like so that the world will look and see Christ and desire to know him.

May our unity preach to the world the saving and unifying power of Christ's love.

Prayer - Thank you, Lord, that you are perfect unity. Help us be united as you are. Please pour out your wisdom and guidance on the church, our society and world leaders. Lord, we need you, we can’t be united without you!
