Mysterious Bread

Luke 11:3 (ESV)
Give us each day our daily bread

After I finished my studies, I had the sudden worry about what was next. I’m sure some of you may relate to the ‘what is next’ anxiety. Each day, I anxiously typed away online searching for job after job. As the days flew by, I became increasingly anxious about my future. Not only did my worries affect my mind but also my physical health as I lost sleep.

One evening, I was cleaning the bathrooms at my part time job. (Fun I know!) I was ranting to the Lord about how stressed I was, when in that moment Luke 11:3 entered my mind. ‘Give us each day our daily bread’. My mind immediately went to a hungry Shalomie. When I’m hungry, I become stressed, moody, confused and tired. It’s my body telling me it needs fuel.

The Bible is our much-needed daily food. Just as we are affected by a day without physical food, so we are without the daily Word of God. Without the Word, we become more anxious, more fearful and confused. However, when we feed on the Word of God every day, it ministers to us.

When I began to fill my mind with God's words, I saw how much bigger God was than what I was facing. I saw God’s faithfulness and his heart. He became bigger and bigger, pouring life and light into my life.

I believe he will do the same for you.

In honesty, I'm not yet sure what is next, but I am trusting in God’s love and plan for me. The next time you find yourself worrying about life, pause, bring your concerns to God - meditate on his love for you.

Prayer - Help us to remember we are not to live on bread alone but in greater intimacy with you through prayer and your Word, the Bread of Life.
