The Generosity Of Giving

Matthew 10:8 (AMP) —

‘Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.’

One day, out of the blue, my family was blessed with an abundance of food, so much so we decided we had to give it away, generously. We contacted family, friends and neighbours to bless them with our blessing.

That experience reminds me of this Bible verse - Luke 5:6-7 (AMP)

'When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets were at the point of breaking; so they signalled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats [with fish], so that they began to sink.

There was something truly satisfying about sharing our blessing. One could call it altruism, but it's even more encouraging to know that God loves a cheerful giver: 'Let each one give (thoughtfully and with purpose) just as he has decided in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.' (2 Cor 9:7)

By giving the gift of food away, we didn't find that we lacked anything; quite the opposite -as the Bible tells us: 'Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over (with no space left for more). For with the standard of measurement you use (when you do good to others), it will be measured to you in return.’ Luke 6:38

Prayer - Holy Spirit please help me to realise I am just a steward over your provision. Help me to steward well and cheerfully all that you've given to me to further your kingdom here on earth.
