The Secret To Prosperity

Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV)

‘Blessed is the one […] whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither - whatever they do prospers.

I know I am not alone in saying there are days when I feel so overwhelmed by life that I don’t know what to do with myself. The world is full of advice and self-help guides on all things. Engrained in us from as early as school days – the high achievers get celebrated and we are expected to try to follow suit. Life can feel like a never-ending race and competition.

Oh, but the maker of heaven and earth has a different plan. Jesus calls us to a simple life. Success is measured not by the number of ‘firsts’ or promotions nailed in our CV; in the kingdom of God, success is measured by our level of obedience to the Father.

Psalm 1, verses 1 through 3 give the secret to prosperity. Keep living out those verses. God will do the rest. We have his word for it.

Prayer Lord, thank you for your Word. So freely available to us, so rich in wisdom. May our souls thirst for more of you. May we seek to meditate on your ways day and night. Then our lips shall ever praise you for you truly are a promise-keeper. Close to your heart, we will be like trees planted by streams of water. Always in fruit. Sing hallelujah, the King is alive!
