You Make Me Brave

Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Have I not commanded you… WOW !

So, we've grasped (hopefully!) that God wants us to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is with us, he won’t forsake us. We know that that he wants us to be strong and courageous. But we see here that it’s deeper than that. He commands us to be strong and courageous. That’s pretty huge!

But the truth is, if we trust in the Lord, his commands are much simpler than we sometimes make them out to be. If we approach life with our own limited understanding, we run the risk of missing out on all God has for us. God wanted Joshua to Be Strong and Courageous through HIM. He was to draw his strength from God and not to be dependent on his own brawn or brain.

Despite the constant reminders, how often do we still try and be strong and courageous by leaning on our own understanding and doing it all on our own? Forgetting that the actual instruction is to lean on God. God wants us to saturate ourselves in his word. To meditate on his promises, and to trust in his truth. To know that almighty God is our strength and support and that the same God who held the hands of Moses and Joshua is the One who holds my hand and your hand. His grace is sufficient, and his power is made perfect in our weakness.

Prayer – Lord, help me to always trust in you, to know my strength is found in you. You are the one who makes me brave, for you are always with me.
