Immeasurably More

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Quite possibly my favourite verse, and one I return to time and time again. 

It is when I remind myself that I don’t have to do anything in my own strength, that I come back to the place of peace and of purpose.  It is here that I ask him again to fill me again with his Holy Spirit, that I may step into the fullness of life for which he has created me. 

A short while ago, I started a new job. I’d sensed God’s nudge to a new purpose, and I remember beginning the application process by giving it over to God knowing that, should I be successful, I’d need to lean on him more than ever. The zoom interview was tough, and honestly, I felt like closing my laptop lid at one point. At the end, I said out loud, ‘Well Lord, if they offer me that job, I KNOW it’s because it’s your purpose for me!’ To my astonishment, I was successful. God is so kind in how he affirms us. 

On my first day, my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest, and I prayed those words of Ephesians. And I continue to pray them every single day. I can’t share my faith openly when doing my job, but I can invite God into every situation. And you know what, he’s shown up, every single time. Because he is 'immeasurably more,' and knows just what we need, when we need it. He is faithful, he won’t leave us, He is there wanting to draw close and be our source of strength in all we do. For it is all for Jesus' glory. 

I wonder what your 'immeasurably more is?' Be brave and courageous and dare to dream with God. He is with you – he won’t let you down. 


Prayer — Lord, cause me to dream. Help me to lean on you and know you are my strength. Cause me to be brave and live outrageously for you.
