Your Worship Is Unique

Psalm 139:14 (TPT)
‘I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvellously breath-taking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord!’

In Psalm 139, David shares his revelation on how intricately and intentionally we are made, that we are seen, intimately known and loved by our heavenly father. It's my favourite Psalm and one I regularly read to remind myself who I am and how carefully and thoughtfully I was created.

You are a masterpiece, nothing about you is an accident - God is too intentional for that! Your physical appearance, personality, skills, talents, culture and family have all been specifically chosen by God and it all impacts your worship. My family is Yoruba, a tribe in Nigeria, and there is a strong emphasis on respecting your elders in the culture - ask your Nigerian friend! This has impacted how I worship as my perspective on respect and reverence is different from those who didn’t grow up like me.

Our physical expressions of worship don't have to look like those around us; if you love to dance, sing, jump, clap, shout, sit still, kneel, whatever feels true and pure from your heart, do it!

Beyond sung worship, our lives become the expression of our worship. ‘...whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God’ (1 Corinthians 10:31). So, if you are strategic, entrepreneurial, empathetic, friendly, funny, environmentally conscious, creative - whatever personality trait or skill he has carefully placed in you, use it for the glory of God! In Psalm19:1 the Bible says ‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands’. They don't actually speak, although that would be cool; they worship him by simply being what he created them to be!

Today, reflect on how beautifully unique you are and fully embrace every aspect of you and use this to worship our King!

Prayer – Lord, I thank you for how wonderfully you have crafted me. Teach me to worship you in complete freedom and acceptance, with all that I am and all that you have blessed me with.
