Acts 1:1-14
Be Still: Thank you, Lord, that you are alive and always working. Help me to see you in these passages and open my heart to all you want me to know today. Amen

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (v8)
Encounter: If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? For me It would be to fly, so that I could go anywhere in the world, see the sky and get a bird’s eye view of all the cool scenery. As cool as this is, I’m reminded that we already do have a superpower and it is better than anything we could desire. This power doesn’t just change our lives; its driving force always moves towards people, to testify of Jesus. Jesus says his disciples would receive power by the Holy Spirit and that they would be witnesses. Jesus' Spirit is always moving us towards people.
We have the power to be a witness, a witness to the life and transforming power of Jesus. We are empowered to tell the world – our neighbours, friends and strangers–all about him. The beautiful thing about this passage is that we learn you don’t need a qualification or be a particular personality type or age to be a witness. You don’t have to be an extrovert or be eloquent in speech. You don’t need to be a Christian for 5+ years before you can witness to someone the transformational power of Jesus. The One who qualifies you, is Jesus. The One who empowers you and gives you all you need, is the Holy Spirt. The Holy Spirit can embolden and equip you, and will move in the hearts of those around you.
Apply: Who is God calling you to be a witness to this week? Invite the Holy Spirit into your day, ask him to lead you and embolden you to witness to those around you in whatever way he leads.
Devote: Thank you, Lord, that you have given us your Spirit not only to transform us but to embolden us to share with others the hope we have. Lead me today and every day in being a witness to your life-changing power.
