Matthew 28:1-15

Be Still: Father, thank you that I am your child. Please open the eyes of my heart this morning and reveal to me the secrets of heaven. Amen

Read: Matthew 28:1-15

He is not here. He has risen, just as he said. (v6)

Encounter: This passage is the moment in the movie where Simba finally defeats Scar, where Harry beats Voldemort, where Frodo destroys the ring. It’s like the first day of the summer holidays, your birthday and Christmas all rolled into one. It’s that feeling you get when England score a 90th minute winner in the World Cup Final having been 2-0 down at half time (or at least how I imagine it would feel if it ever happened).

This passage is the pinnacle, the payoff, the twist in the tale. It’s the best news the world has ever heard…

Jesus is alive!

There is no greater truth, nothing more consequential. Because Jesus is alive, we are free. Because Jesus is alive, sin and death hold no power. Because Jesus is alive, we are alive too!

Apply: It’s easy to become over familiar with the message of the Gospel. We sing about it, we hear it every week at church, we write it on tea towels and fridge magnets. Take a moment today to ponder the incredible truth that Jesus is alive. Let it fill your mind and your heart. Think about all the incredible things that are true because Jesus is alive.

Devote: Thank you Jesus that you conquered sin and death so that I can live free.
