John 4:27-42

Be Still: Father, thank you that I am your child. Please open the eyes of my heart this morning and reveal to me the secrets of heaven.

Read: John 4:27-42

‘Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me everything I ever did.’ (v39)

Encounter: I run the UK hydrogen trade association. Don’t worry if you don’t know what that means, very few people do! Essentially, my job is to champion the hydrogen industry and demonstrate to the government the role that it can play in helping the UK to hit our climate change targets. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that facts can sometimes change minds, but stories always move hearts.

As it is with hydrogen, so it is with the gospel. We can tell people the facts of the gospel, we can debate the authenticity and accuracy of the Bible, we can philosophise about the problem of suffering. All these things have value and can be powerful. But nothing is more powerful than your story, the work of God in your life.

In this passage, the Samaritan woman shares her story of Jesus working miraculously in her life and many people in her town come to faith because of her testimony.

Apply: What is your story? Take some time today to recall the things that God has done in your life, the times you’ve seen him work miraculously or simply the way that he’s brought you peace and joy. This week, why not look for opportunities to share stories of how Jesus has changed your life with the people around you and see what happens!

Devote: Thank you Jesus for the way that you have changed my life and given me hope and joy. Please give me opportunities today to share my story with the people around me.
