Acts 3:1-10

Be Still: Thank you, Lord, that you are alive and always working. Help me to see you in these passages and open my heart to all you want me to see and know today. Amen

When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money.
Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, 'Look at us!' (v3-4)

Encounter: Peter and John were on their way to a prayer service when they were stopped by a man at the temple asking for money. Instead of hurriedly rushing by, or giving money and rushing away, they stopped. They intently looked at the man in a way that made him feel seen and heard -— and spoke Jesus into his life. Wow! 

If I’m honest, I often live rushing from one thing to the next, usually with a pair of headphones in my ears. However, I have found that when I take them off, random conversations about Jesus have been sparked in Ubers, at bus stops and cafés. There have been times I have been busily 'serving' and missed an opportunity to be actively present to someone. I have missed moments where God was wanting me to have eyes focussed on the one person, not the crowd. I should have stopped what I was doing, listened and partnered with God to see breakthrough in their lives. 

Both Peter and John lived busy lives, preaching, healing, leading prayer meetings and much more. But what speaks to me in this passage is how interruptible and present they were. It was in that place of being interruptible and present, they could hear God’s heart for the man; then they could speak Jesus into his life and witness a miracle performed. They didn’t wait to get to the prayer meeting to partner with God but had eyes to see miracles in the everyday holy interruptions and encounters with people.  

Apply: What would it look like to invite more interruption in my daily life? Is there any step I can take to help me be more of a 'present person' to those around, keeping an open door for God to move. 

Devote: Lord, help me to be more interruptible and present like Peter and John. Give me eyes to see when I can make someone feel seen and then speak Jesus into their lives.
