Hebrews 6:13-20

Be Still: Jesus, open my eyes to see you rightly today. As I spend time in your Word, would you transform my heart and mind. Come and have your way. Amen

Read: Hebrews 6:13-20

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. (v19-20)

Encounter: There was a season in my life where it felt like I was moving house every five seconds.  I think I lived in 4 different locations over the course of a year. Each time I would finally feel settled and then, with everything unpacked, it would be time to pack it all back into boxes again. In the end, I resigned myself to living out of boxes, convinced that the next move would be just around the corner. I remember reading an appropriate quote - ‘in life, change is the only constant’, a sentiment I’m sure a lot of us can relate to.

Whether it’s a change in house, job, relationships, or even the weather, the smallest (or biggest) shift can throw us off balance, out of control. We can feel tossed about by the waves of life, unable to hold ourselves steady at the mercy of shifting tides.

But as Paul so beautifully puts it, ‘We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, FIRM AND SECURE.’ No matter what situation we find ourselves in, or how many changes come our way, our hope in Jesus holds us steady. When we cling onto him, we cannot be shaken.

I love this picture, and it’s one I return to again and again – a strong, unbreakable rope, me at one end, and at the other my high priest, feet firmly planted on holy ground. He has gone ahead of me into the sacred space to create a permanent home where I will one day live. Hallelujah.

Apply: Take a moment to close your eyes, to slow your breathing and to picture exactly that. You tied to Jesus. See him keeping you steady, not letting you drift. Remind yourself that no matter what yesterday, today or tomorrow looks like, you are always tethered to him.

Devote: Jesus, thank you that you are my anchor. That I can trust you to hold me still when life feels turbulent. Today, I choose to put my hope in you.
