Luke 6:27–38

Be Still: Lord, still my heart today. Help me hear your voice as I read your word and guide my steps. Amen.

Read: Luke 6:27–38

But to you who are listening I say: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you. (v27)

Encounter:From Sundays to MondaysWhen Love Feels Impossible

Some Bible passages are easy to admire from a distance; others only make sense when they collide with real life. This is one of those: Jesus is not offering a beautiful idea but a way of living that feels impossible without his help.

I think of some challenging people I have met over the years, inside and outside the church. We've all had them: those awkward or abrasive individuals who twist your words, find fault or seem determined to be difficult. A 'good Christian' is meant to respond with kindness, yet sometimes I've wanted to keep them at arm’s length. Every conversation felt draining. Knowing what Jesus asks and doing it, are two different things.

In those moments one verse kept returning to me: 'To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God' (Micah 6:8). Looking back, I can see the Spirit gently nudging me. He invited me to see these often deeply wounded people as he sees them. That helped me stay present, ask questions and seek to understand until I could glimpse gold in them, treasure wrapped in human frailty.

This is where faith moves from Sundays to Mondays, from what we say we believe to the everyday moments that test it. As we choose mercy, we discover that others are just like us: broken, bruised, sometimes in despair, yet loved by a God full of grace. As we learn to show mercy, we begin to grasp how much mercy the Father continues to show us.

Apply: Where is Jesus nudging you from nice idea to real life? Are there relationships where you notice yourself withdrawing or becoming more critical? Be honest with God. Then ask him for one small step, whether a message, a prayer or choosing not to bite back, that shows mercy or generosity.

Devote: Lord, you have shown me so much mercy. Today I choose your way of love. Show me where I need to forgive, bless and be generous. Fill me with your Spirit so I reflect your heart, even when it's tough.
