John 16:1-15
Be Still: Lord, make me aware of your presence here with me. Thank you that your Word is alive and breathing; would you use it to speak to me now. Amen
Read: John 16:1-15
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (v13)
Encounter: Truth is hard to come by these days. We live in a world of AI generated photos, fake news across headlines and constant polarising opinions. The information fed to us can often be conflicting, confusing, and sometimes just complete lies.
To make matters worse, our own brains have a frustrating tendency to distort the truth. Our thoughts can be littered with lies about who we are, what people think about us, our abilities, and our desires. The work of discerning and challenging lies is exhausting, and it often feels easier just to believe them.
However, Jesus is not content to leave us living in lies. He knows the power that they hold over us and longs to see us walking in truth. But he also understands just how hard truth can be to find. So, he gives us his Spirit - the one who knows ALL truth. He doesn’t leave us lost in lies but takes us by the hand and leads us to his perfect truth, now and forever.
Apply: Where are you believing lies about yourself, others, or God? Are there any wrong narratives you’ve allowed to be spoken over you? Instead, allow the Spirit of truth to come and help you discern, challenge, and remove lies from your mind and replace it with truth. It might be helpful to write down some truths found within scripture about who God says you are.
Devote: Holy Spirit, break any power that lies might have over me, both past and present. Take me by the hand and guide me into your truth today.
