Hebrews 7:10-28

Be Still: Jesus, open my eyes to see you rightly today. As I spend time in your Word, would you transform my heart and mind. Come and have your way. Amen

Read:  Hebrews 7:10-28

Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. (v25)

Encounter: We often speak of Jesus’ work as something in the past. He lived. He died. He rose again. He defeated death once and for all. All past tense. All completely true! And yet that misses much of the work of Christ.

Hebrews pulls back the curtain on what Jesus is doing right now, as we go about our lives. Not watching from a distance. Not sitting passively waiting for the end. He always lives to intercede for them.

Intercession is deeply personal. It is the act of 'standing in the gap', of speaking on behalf of another, of refusing to be indifferent. Jesus is not merely sympathetic toward us – he is actively engaged for us. He brings our weakness, our failures, our half-formed prayers before the Father, and pleads on our behalf, not with frustration, but with commitment.

This picture of intercession is one that is continuous, never relenting or ceasing. Never pausing to take a break. Always. And, remarkably, his intercession is not triggered by our performance. Hebrews doesn’t say he intercedes when you get it right, when you say the right words, but that he intercedes as and where you are.

This is how he can save completely, not because we never fail, but because he never stops. Our spiritual life is sustained not by our ability to keep God’s attention, but by Jesus’ unceasing attention toward us. He holds our story before the Father, ensuring that grace has the final word.

Apply: Where do you feel most tempted to rely on your own effort today? Instead, why not trust that area to Jesus, confident that he is praying and pleading on your behalf? Submit your own request before God, your worries, fears and failings and know that they are delivered by the Son to the ear of the Father.

Devote: Jesus, thank you that you are praying for me even now. When I feel weak, distracted, or unsure, help me to trust in your faithful intercession. Teach me to rest in what you are doing on my behalf – today and every day.
