Hebrews 9:15-28
Be Still: Lord, quiet my thoughts, calm my worries, and draw me closer to you. Shape my heart, renew my faith, and remind me of the hope I have in you as I seek you now. Amen
Read: Hebrews 9:15-28
For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. (vv 24-26)
Encounter: This whole passage reminds us of just how incredible Jesus’ sacrifice really is. Under the old system, people had to keep offering sacrifices again and again. It was a constant reminder that sin had a cost, and that forgiveness was never fully complete. But Jesus changed everything.
When Jesus gave his life, he didn’t offer a temporary fix. His blood sealed a new covenant, bringing full forgiveness and freedom. There is no need for repeated sacrifices, no need to keep trying to earn God’s approval. What Jesus did on the Cross was enough — forever.
And it doesn’t finish there. This passage also points us forward. Jesus is coming back. When he returns, it won’t be to deal with sin again — that’s already been done. He will come to bring salvation in its fullness to those who are waiting for him. That promise gives us hope, especially when life feels uncertain or hard.
Apply: This is such good news for tired hearts! Knowing this will shape how we live. We all mess up, we all carry regrets, guilt, and shame but we don’t have to approach God out of fear, rather we approach him out of gratitude.
This is an invitation for us to rest in what Jesus has done and to live with hopeful expectation of what he will do. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you which areas of your life you can live in greater expectation of all that is to come through Jesus.
Devote: Jesus, thank you for giving your life for me. Help me to live each day grateful for your grace and hopeful for your return.
