2 Corinthians 1:15-2:4
Be Still: Lord, thank you for your Word; I pray that you would bring peace to my mind and an openness to my heart. Ready me to receive you. Amen
Read: 2 Corinthians 1:15-2:4
'For no matter how many promises God has made they are yes in Christ. And so through him the Amen is spoken by us to the glory of God.' (v20)
Encounter: We live in a world where promises are often made and broken. Plans fall through. People let us down. So, when Scripture tells us that every promise God has made finds its 'Yes' in Christ, it can be hard to believe that this statement is fully true, all the time.
But today I want to challenge us to believe with faith that Jesus is the fulfilment of every one of God’s promises – they are all affirmed, guaranteed, and secured through Christ. He is not just the promise-keeper; he is the living proof that God does what he says.
The second part of the verse is where we come in. We say ‘Amen’ – meaning ‘let it be so’ – to God’s promises. We have a role to play here in partnering with God, and not just with our mouths, but with our lives. Living in a way that says: ‘Even though I can’t see how you’re at work God; I’m going to build my life on your promises.' Walking forward even when the outcome isn’t clear, because we know his Word is sure.
So, maybe it’s time to go back to a key scripture you thought God gave to you but which you haven’t seen come into its fulness; maybe today you need to dust off an old journal that holds dreams, words and visions that you felt God spoke to you but are yet to become a reality.
Look to Jesus – the 'Yes' of every promise – and boldly speak your ‘Amen’ in trust that he will do what he said he was going to do.
Apply: Is there a promise from God you’ve found hard to believe lately? Take a quiet moment to be honest with him about it. Ask for renewed trust. What would it look like to trust him with that again today?
Devote: Lord, remind me of the forgotten promises that you’ve spoken over my life; draw them to mind in this moment and give me the faith to believe that your promises are yes and amen.
