Colossians 1:15-23

Be Still: Lord Jesus, Word of the Father, dwell in our hearts as we read your holy Scriptures. Illuminate our minds with your truth, that we may live in faithful obedience and praise. Amen

Read: Colossians 1:15-23

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (v 17)

Encounter: Colossians 1:15–23 draws me into one of the most breath-taking descriptions of Jesus in all Scripture. Paul lifts my vision far above the noise of daily life, and places it firmly on the cosmic Christ, the One who is the visible image of the invisible God, the Creator of everything seen and unseen, the One who existed before all things and in whom everything continues to hold together. As I meditate on these words, I always feel a sense of holy awe. Jesus is not simply a wise teacher or compassionate healer; he is the centre of all creation, the One sustaining the universe at every moment.

Yet this passage is not only majestic but deeply personal. The One who holds the galaxies together is also the One who reconciled me through his blood. Paul reminds me that I was once alienated, caught in a mindset and lifestyle far from God. But Christ stepped into my brokenness, restoring relationship and presenting me holy and blameless. The grandeur of Christ’s power combined with the tenderness of his reconciliation overwhelms me, It reminding me that my faith is rooted in someone greater than my circumstances, emotions, or limitations.

Application: Paul challenges us to live with Christ at the true centre of our life: if he holds all things together, then he can certainly hold together our thoughts, responsibilities and worries. I often attempt to manage everything in my own strength, forgetting that the One who sustains creation is the same One sustaining me. Paul’s call to remain grounded and steadfast in hope encourages us to resist drifting into self-reliance or discouragement. Instead, we are invited to anchor ourselves in the secure reality of who Christ is and what he has accomplished. Let us practice pausing before decisions, frustrations, or anxieties to remember that our life is held together in him.

Devote: Lord Jesus, you are before all things, and in you all things hold together. Help me live today with a deeper awareness of your presence and your power. Hold my life together as only you can.
