Colossians 1:24-2:7
Be Still: Eternal Father, quiet our minds and still our spirits as we come before your Word. Let the wisdom of Scripture guide our steps and strengthen our faith, through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen
Read: Colossians 1:24-2:7
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. (v6-7)
Encounter: Colossians 1:24–2:7 offers a powerful glimpse into Paul’s heart for the Church, a heart filled with willingness to suffer, a deep sense of responsibility and an unshakable desire to see believers mature in Christ. Paul’s statement that he rejoices in his sufferings is immediately arresting. It exposes how quickly I assume that hardship means things are off track. For Paul, suffering becomes a meaningful participation in Christ’s work, a way God strengthens and forms his people.
As Paul speaks of the mystery now revealed – Christ in you the hope of glory – I’m moved by how personal and relational the gospel is. It’s not just information to understand but transformation from within. Then, shifting into chapter 2, Paul expresses his struggle and concern for believers he has never met. His longing is not for their comfort or ease but for their encouragement, unity, and full grasp of the riches found in knowing Christ.
What stands out most is Paul’s protective passion. His warning about deceptive arguments reminds me that spiritual growth is not passive. There are forces, voices and influences that subtly try to pull me away from the simplicity and strength of Christ. Paul urges believers to continue in him, to stay rooted, grounded, and steady.
Application: This passage challenges us to evaluate our spiritual posture. Are we being rooted in Christ, or are our roots tangled in worries, ambitions, or the approval of others? Paul’s words invite us to cultivate a faith that is not shallow or easily swayed but deeply anchored in who Christ is. I’m reminded that maturity doesn’t happen by accident; it happens by intentionally living in Christ, allowing his life to shape our thoughts, decisions, and desires.
Devote: Lord, thank you for revealing the mystery of Christ within me. Help me remain rooted and built up in you. Guard my heart from distractions and deceptive influences. Strengthen me to endure with purpose, love others well, and grow in faith. Let thankfulness overflow from my life today.
