A Saviour

This week's devotionals are based on quotations from broadcast messages of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, as we give thanks for her long life of faith, duty and service.

John 3:16 —
'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.'

‘Although we are capable of great acts of kindness, history teaches us that we sometimes need saving from ourselves – from our recklessness or our greed. God sent into the world a unique person – neither a philosopher nor a general (important though they are) – but a Saviour, with the power to forgive.’ — The Queen, 2011

It has been said that if we’d needed money God would have sent an economist, or if we’d needed pleasure he would have sent an entertainer - but our greatest need has always been for a Saviour. And so, in his unfathomable love, he sent us Jesus to die on that cruel cross to bring restoration to our broken lives and eternal reconciliation with God.

Prayer — Father thank you for the incredible gift of salvation that Jesus released upon our world. Let us receive that glorious freedom that salvation brings and help us, in turn, to share the good news with others.
