Come Away
Psalm 27:8 –
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”
There is no substitute for first-hand experience of the living God. For setting aside time to be with him, to talk to him, to just hang out and let him know what is on your mind.
I remember once driving through France after leading worship at an event. Although I’d spent the week ‘with God’, I felt him nudge me in the car to ‘come away’ and spend some dedicated time with him. I ended up randomly pulling into a small town called Abbeville, buying a coffee and sitting at a table in the town square. Here I prayed and just dwelt with God. I chatted to him in my heart about what had happened in the past week, what I was feeling, what I was sad about, what I had enjoyed. Ever since, for me the name of that town has become my own personal little reminder to set aside times and spaces to purely ‘long’ for God. I often find it helpful to imagine God is saying to me ‘Meet me at Abbeville’ – it’s an invitation, a reminder to ‘come away’, to be with Him.
Reflect – How can you express your longing for God today? Psalm 42 speaks poetically of the depths of our hearts connecting with the depths of God’s heart. Take some time today to let your “deep” call to his “deep”. Maybe write it down, maybe walk it out. Come Away.
Pray – God, I want to ‘come away’ with you today. I want to chat to you as if you right in the room with me – a best friend and yet an almighty loving God and saviour. Prompt me throughout today to speak to you and bring my life into yours and yours into mine. Amen.
