Giving My All

Luke 10:27 –

‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and Love your neighbour as yourself.’

I love Luke 10:27, it’s such a simple but hard-hitting verse. Love God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind. The word that stands out most to me in that passage is ‘all’. What does ‘all’ mean? In my mind it means ALL, everything, the whole shebang!

My daughter is currently obsessed with the film Frozen; every song she sings is from Frozen, she only wants to read her Frozen magazine and she’s renamed herself Anna (the main character). Definitely obsessed! Seeing my daughter’s full commitment to this Disney film and how it encompasses her life, and then turning to reflect on this verse, I feel challenged and question how much of my all am I giving to Jesus. Am I as committed to Jesus as my two-year-old is to Frozen?

The more time I spend with my husband, family or friends the more of myself I give to them. Relationships build and grow through spending time with people, chatting to them, telling them our innermost thoughts and feelings. It’s the same with God: he wants to spend time with us, he wants us to come to him with our innermost thoughts, our stresses of the day, our hopes and dreams, our plans. What is it for you that is getting in the way of giving your all? How can you be involving God in all you do, say and think? He wants to be partnering with us in everything, not just in our quiet times or when we’re watching church or meeting in groups on-line. All.

Prayer Thank you Lord that you give your all to us; I want to give my all to you. Please show me anything that may be getting in the way of our close relationship.
