I Need You

Luke 7:18-19(NIV) —

‘Calling two of them, he sent them to the Lord to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?'

All I remember was blacking out as I hit the ground. My bike landed on top of me and bruised three ribs. I thought it was a hill, turns out it was a sheer drop. I couldn’t move and had to send my friend to my Dad for help. I knew my Dad, I had a good relationship with my Dad, we talked often. But in that moment, I was unable to go to him and needed a friend to go for me.

John the Baptist knew Jesus, John had a good relationship with Jesus, they spoke often. Even so, as he sat in his cell, he was unable to go to Jesus and needed some friends to go for him. John was in a physical prison yes, but also a prison of his own doubt.

Have you ever felt so paralysed by life that prayer seems impossible? If you haven’t, one day you might… Do you have friends you can trust to go to Jesus on your behalf? Are you that kind of friend?

At creation God noticed one thing that wasn’t good… ‘for man to be alone’ Turns out humanity's primary problem wasn’t sin; it was solitude. We were created for community. Our faith thrives in community. We need each other.

I have friends who make me laugh, tell great stories, and are always game for adventure, but the longer I live, the friends I’m most grateful for are the ones who know how to go to Jesus on my behalf.

If you don’t have those people, ask God to show you someone in your life who could be that kind of friend. Maybe you need to reach out to a friend and ask if there is something they need you to pray for today.

Prayer - God open my eyes to the people around me; show me who I can rely on and make me someone who can be relied on.
