Lessons From The Garden: Thin Place

Micah 7:7 (NIV)
But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Saviour; my God will hear me.

I love spending time in my garden. It is my 'thin place' where heaven and earth come close. It’s a place where sometimes I will sit and have a cup of tea with Jesus. Other times, I spend cultivating, planting, pruning and working hard to make it a pleasant place to look out on and share the beauty of God’s creation with others. My garden is a place where Jesus and I have great conversations, where I contemplate situations I am going through and Jesus always meets me there. He might not change the situation straight away, but I know that I have been seen, heard and understood. That he is working through whatever it is for me - and I can trust him.

Where is your ‘thin place’; the place you can go and spend time with God, and have a heart-to-heart conversation? God loves you so much and wants to spend time with you.

There have been times when I have neglected to spend time in the garden and all too quickly the weeds start to appear, the grass grows too long and I can become overwhelmed with it all. However, I know there is wisdom in spending time and planning time to spend in the garden. Just like my garden, I know that if I don’t spend quality time with Jesus, my life can easily become chaotic and out of order.

Even though your day is busy and your to-do list is long, go and spend time with Jesus today – to talk over the things that are on your mind.   He’s waiting…..

Prayer - Lord, help me to find you in the busyness of my days to prioritise spending time with you.  Lord help me to hear your voice.
