Opportunities In The Unexpected

Matthew 24:36-39 (NIVUK)

But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

Throughout the Bible there are many examples of God working in

the unexpected: Mary wasn’t expected to give birth to the Son of God and David wasn’t expected to fight Goliath and especially not to win. This shows that God wants to work through all people and that we are all part of his plan even if we don’t expect to be. In our daily life we shouldn’t be hesitant about being part of God’s plan, even if there are times when we think that we aren’t the right person or that this isn’t the right time. Instead we should be prepared and have courage that God, no matter what, will guide us in both good and hard times.

In my life I find there are times when I don’t feel ready or expect to meet with God; it might be when I’m at school or when I’m trying to get to sleep. Then I think, 'I’ll wait to meet with God another time.' In a maths class, I certainly don't expect to start speaking in tongues or even to feel the presence of the Lord but I know that God works through the unexpected times. For some people, it might be that they don’t ever expect God to meet with them, no matter what the situation is.

So, if you're someone who doesn't think God will speak to you on certain occasions or in certain circumstances (perhaps outside of church or in your daily work or school) or whether you don’t expect God to speak to you at any point, I’d like to pray this prayer for you:

Prayer Dear Lord, we thank you for your never-ending presence and we pray that as we go into the day ahead we will connect with you in times when we least expect it.
