Seeing God In The Ordinary
Helen works for a Christian Charity in a senior school overseeing pastoral work for families and students.
Psalm 16: 8 (NLT)
I know the Lord is always with me
I believe that most of us live our lives 'in the ordinary'. We have extraordinary moments, but those tend to happen every now and again. Most of us live within the ordinary of going to work, making dinner, food shopping, paying bills, seeing friends and family.
Just ordinary things……where God is with us.
When I go for a walk and connect with the beauty of nature around me
When I meet with my home group on a weekday evening, and we share life
When I pray into a situation at work
When I write my prayer journal at the end of the day
When I forget to pray because I’m just too tired
When my life feels great and together
When my life is falling apart, and I feel completely out of control.
When I’m praising God for their goodness and when I’m mad at God because things don’t always go as planned.
All ordinary parts of my life and all areas that God cares about. I love meeting with God in the extraordinary and I am thankful for those times. But for me the ordinary is where most of us meet God, most of the time.
So during my ordinary times, I try and engage with God as much as I can: listening to a Bible devotion on the way to work, praising God whilst I am out for a walk, letting God know how I feel about my day, praying for the things I see happening in the world when I feel helpless.
Connecting with my loving God…..in the ordinary.
Prayer - Dear loving God, thank you that you meet with us exactly where we are and how ever we are feeling. The ordinary is beautiful and thank you for meeting us here.
