Time

Psalm 90:12 (NIV) —

‘Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.’

Time is defined as the duration in which all things happen. OKaay....

We operate in the realm of time. Yet sometimes we live as though our days are not numbered. We can misuse the precious gift of time. It is a fixed commodity, where there is a beginning, there is an end. Time is perishable: when it has been used, it’s gone. You can't buy time back. We can’t hop into a time-travelling sports car like Marty Mcfly and go back to the past. What we can do though is to learn from our past and best navigate our future by making the most of our present.

All time is not the same, however. There are two ways we can view time. One view is the Chronos time, which is the quantitative measurement of time: how we understand that we function under the law of time. Tick...tick...tick... Days pass, one by one, Tick...tick...tick...

Then there is Kairos time, which is a special time when we are presented with a window of opportunity. As disciples of Jesus, we are often invited into Kairos time, times when we are offered opportunities to serve him, often unanticipated by us, but carefully prepared for by him. In Ephesians 2:10 Paul writes:

'For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.'

I wonder what Kairos opportunities the Lord is presenting to you in this time?

Some questions:

·      Am I making the most of the present time?

·      What is the lesson God is trying to teach me?

·      What skill can I gain in this season?

·      Who should I give more time to?

·      Who should I give less time to?

Prayer - My times are in your hands. I trust you, Lord.
