We Are His Masterpiece
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork...”
The Bible is scattered with small statements that are incredibly easy to miss or skim over, yet they are packed with immeasurable significance and power to transform our lives. These 5 words in Ephesians are no exception to that.
Who am I? Where does my worth come from? Am I valued? Am I good enough? These are all questions that are normal to ask ourselves, and everywhere we look in society there are messages that try to tell us where we can find the answers. In a new job, in a new car, through our friendships, on social media, through our grades and qualifications - the list is endless. What if we already had the answer, but we just blink and miss it because it’s so simple?
We are God’s handiwork.
The KJV uses the word ‘workmanship’, which in Greek is ‘poiema’. A better translation might be that we are God’s poetry in motion, we are God’s masterpiece, a work of art.
God delights when He looks at you and reflects on the masterpiece He has created. To Him, you are the finest of portraits, the most intricate of sculptures, the truest reflection of beauty. When God crafted you, by His majestic hand, He was having a really good day!
This truth might be simple, but it’s a lifelong journey for us to believe it, trust it and live in it. After the fall, shame intrinsically wired us to doubt and question who we are. So, now, we have the continual (even daily) task of reminding ourselves of the truth that Father God, the creator of the University, delights in who He made us to be.
Pray: Take a moment to reflect on the words in this verse. Ask God to reveal his delight in you, perhaps repent of any self-doubt and ask Him to remove it.
Respond: Try and live today, secure in the truth that God is pleased with you, proud of you, and considers you his most prized masterpiece.
