Luke 4:14–30

Be Still: Lord, centre my heart on you. Help me see your mission clearly and to respond faithfully. Amen.

Read: Luke 4:14–30

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the oppressed and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free. (v18)

Encounter: Jesus words inspire awe in some and scepticism in others. The reaction is immediate, showing that truth and purpose are not always met with acceptance. Even among familiar faces, not everyone recognises or welcomes God’s plan.

This moment challenges me to consider the courage needed to live in purpose. Jesus did not shy away from declaring his calling, despite knowing the mixed reception he would face. Demonstrating that faithfulness is more important than approval, and that God’s work often requires stepping into the unknown, trusting him to guide the way.

Jesus’ confidence stems from intimacy with the Father and awareness of his mission. Similarly, we are called to step into the work God gives us, even if it is uncomfortable or misunderstood, trusting that he will empower and guide us.

Apply: Where is God calling me to step out in faith, even if acceptance is not guaranteed? Am I ready to proclaim His love and truth faithfully?

Devote: Lord, give me courage to live boldly for you. Help me to proclaim your love and freedom without fear of rejection, trusting that your Spirit goes before me.
