Luke 4:31–37
Be Still: Lord, quiet my soul. Open my ears and heart to your voice today. Amen.
Read: Luke 4:31–37
All the people were amazed and said to each other, ‘What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!’ (v36)
Encounter: Jesus words are recognised as carrying divine weight, and the people cannot help but notice the difference. What strikes me is that this authority didn’t come from status or position, but from alignment with God. Jesus’ intimacy with the Father and obedience to the Spirit allow his words to cause wonder and actions to have lasting impact.
Ordinary words, when spoken in alignment with God’s Spirit, can carry extraordinary influence. We may underestimate the impact of encouragement, truth, or guidance offered in God’s name. Like Jesus, we are called to live with authority rooted in love, humility, and obedience, trusting that what we do and say can affect hearts and lives beyond our understanding.
I am reminded that God equips us to make a difference, not by our eloquence or vocabulary, but through connection with him. Authority and power flow naturally from alignment with his will, and our faithfulness amplifies his work in the world.
Apply: Are my words and actions aligned with God’s Spirit? How can I speak with his love and authority in my daily life?
Devote: Lord, let my words and actions reflect your Spirit. Teach me to speak truth, bring encouragement, and act with authority rooted in your love.
